Our Story

Hawg 'N' Sauce is locally owned by Jeff and Sabrina Schelhorn, lifelong Posey County residents. We are known for our award-winning barbecue and family dining atmosphere, and for being a great place for entertainment. Before venturing into the barbecue business, I worked as a homebuilder and cabinet maker for 25 years in Mt. Vernon with my parents, Alan and Laura Schelhorn.

We got our start in cooking for the public during fundraisers for our daughter’s basketball team. The Hawg ‘N’ Sauce grilling team got its start in 2003 and competed in the KCBS BBQ circuit. Our first time out, we beat the number 1 team in the nation in ribs. We also went on to win several awards in various barbecue competitions.

We finally made the leap into a new career in April of 2009. With the help of our kids, Trevor and Bailee, our first employees, friends and family, we opened Hawg ‘N’ Sauce Barbecue and Grill. After just four years in business, we were voted Posey County Business of the Year for 2013 by the Southwest Indiana Chamber of Commerce.

We feature a full menu, not just barbecue. We are known primarily for our ribs and our slow-smoked pulled pork, which is pulled daily by my dad, Alan. Signature items include our IdaHawg, Chip-A-Hawg, and our Friday catfish special.

The restaurant’s large outdoor patio lends itself to comfort and fun for your entire family. We invite you to come out and enjoy weekend entertainment from great local bands and national recording artists.

Come see us at 6580 Leonard Road, Mt. Vernon, Indiana just west of the Expressway Auto Mall. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m, and Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m. We are closed Sunday and Monday.
